What should colts do

Philip Rivers is having a very Philip Rivers-esque season in , though his touchdown rate is well below his career average 3. Rivers signing with the Colts always felt like a swansong, though, so it would be surprising to see Rivers, who turns 39 in December, to be back for another year with Indianapolis. Clearly, if the Colts felt he would be a solution at quarterback, the team wouldn't have made the effort to sign Rivers this past offseason.

The Colts know what they're going to get with Brissett, and he could be a serviceable bridge quarterback. There's also the curious case of Jacob Eason, whom the Colts selected in the fourth round of the NFL Draft; Eason is the third man on the depth chart right now, but has been garnering praise this season for his big arm in practice, mind you and his willingness to soak up knowledge from Colts QB coach Marcus Brady.

There's a good chance Eason sees the field for a cup of coffee in , but that likely won't be enough to get a feel of who he is as a passer at the NFL level. It would be silly for Indianapolis to not give Eason an extended look this year before pouring resources into the position this offseason. The big three quarterbacks — Clemson's Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State's Justin Fields and North Dakota State's Trey Lance — are all likely to be off the board prior to the Colts selection with a record, they're currently sitting with the 18th pick and will likely pick in that range come April.

But there will, potentially, be a slew of first-round talent QBs in I highly doubt the team entertains trading him, but the recent play of Chris Reed could make Glowinski available. With the return of Quenton Nelson to the starting lineup, Glowinski saw his playing time cut in half as he was out-snapped 2-to-1 in favor of Reed.

Glowinski is currently in his fourth year with the Indianapolis Colts, starting nearly every game at right guard since week six of He is a strong run blocker who has the occasional gaffe as a pass blocker.

So far this season, he has allowed one sack and seven QB hits in pass blocking snaps. I simply don't see a team being desperate enough to take on Glowinski's contract in a deadline deal. I also don't see the Colts moving on from a very reliable and steady player for a day-three pick which is likely all he would fetch in return. The last player to include is former second round pick Ben Banogu.

The once highly touted prospect simply hasn't worked out with the Colts, as he has only seen 48 total snaps on defense this season. It has been frustrating couple of years for the young pass rusher, and the Colts seem to be heading in a different direction off the edge. The only hang up with a potential trade is that I don't know if another team would value him enough to give up a pick. You never know when it comes to draft pedigree, but I see the Colts as being more likely to cut Banogu rather than trade him this year.

Now it is time for the fun part. I feel pretty confident in saying that the Colts won't make a deal for a player, but it never hurts to speculate. Here are a few players I would like to see the Colts target at a few potential positions of need:.

A former third round pick back in the draft, Walker's time with the Lions appears to be coming to a close after this season. The Colts have a major need at safety with the recent injury to Julian Blackmon.

While Walker isn't some magic fix on the back end, he is an experienced player who has had some success in the past. For his career, he has tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, 18 pass deflections, and two interceptions. Considering that Walker will be a free agent after the season, I doubt the Colts would have to give up too much in this hypothetical trade. I would guess a mid day-three pick or a late day-three pick and a player maybe Banogu or a receiver like Dezmon Patmon.

Sticking with the Colts' biggest need, Harmon could be a solid veteran addition for the Colts at safety. He is experienced, versatile, and has had a tendency of being a ball-hawk throughout his career. With the Falcons likely in sell mode, I could definitely see the Colts inquiring about Harmon in this hypothetical scenario.

Now, don't ask about that middle stretch -- it wasn't great. But overall, with Buckner, Paye and superstar LB Darius Leonard -- the first player with over tackles and 15 sacks in his first three seasons since at least -- the Colts are loaded and ready to go on defense. That was the most in the NFL. And Wentz missed four games. I'm willing to say that Wentz really didn't get a fair shot over the last few years because his line let him down.

But again, I like taking the chance on Wentz. I'm a huge Jonathan Taylor mark. And I'm sure you probably know why by now. JT had 1, rushing yards -- which led all rookies -- in One of just four players with 1,plus scrimmage yards and at least 12 scrimmage touchdowns. The others? Dal Cook. Ever heard of them? He was at his best down the stretch when he had at least 70 rushing yards in six consecutive games and went for total rushing yards in that span.

He even had 78 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Bills in the playoffs. And I know that Marlon Mack is going to return this season after missing nearly all of last year due to injury. That's a depth play. The Colts brought back a running back who knew the offense. He's not going to hurt JT's production at all. I know I'm mostly talking to fantasy enthusiasts with that last point, but trust me, this is going to be Jonathan's year. Taylor joined Hall of Famers Edgerrin James and Marshall Faulk as the only rookies in club history with at least 1, rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns.

And he's one of just five rookies in the past 20 years to average more than 5. Another pretty decent group. This is an interesting year. It's difficult to find stability and consistency if you are struggling to find a franchise quarterback. I'm a Bears supporter, so I know about this all too well.

The best-case scenario is Reich turns the clock back to for Wentz. The worst would be going , Wentz missing some games. And you settle for signing Nick Foles in the offseason.
