How long do vibram kso last

My calves and hips seared for a couple of days, so much that I had to take time off from my traditionally shod running routine. I held tight, returned to these same trail, distance, and pre-human-like meanderings once per week for the next few weeks, and hoped that the products of this pain would be stronger calves and hips, and a resulting, improved running form.

Running around almost barefoot, unless you pretty much already live shoeless, should be approached with a degree of moderation unknown by most distance runners. The ability to ignore common sense and fatigue to run silly distances and terrain, the precise qualities that make us ultrarunners, will cause nasty injury with FiveFingers. Avoid kicking cacti in your KSOs. In short, do much, much, much less movement in them than you think you should.

I can speak from experience, twice. After increasing my time running in FiveFingers too quickly, I experienced minor inflammation in one Achilles tendon because of overworked accompanying calf muscles.

As I increased my time running in FiveFingers, I also got excited about trying to run faster in them. The polyester mesh upper fabric is extremely breathable and is treated with Aegis Anti Microbial, which prevents the build up of odour.

The flat, low-profile nature of the shoe provides unparalleled balance. The design is minimal, the black colourway is relaxed, and they are extremely comfortable. Like slippers, honestly! When travelling light, you want things that take up the least room with the least weight.

The KSO Evo is not only both of those, but is also extremely flexible ; you can roll them up — They are packable footwear!

I took mine when bike-packing backpacking on a bike! The KSO Evo added just g to my setup and slid in inconspicuously in to my dry bag attached to my handlebars. They are an absolute Godsend for travelling light. My KSO Evo , despite the high mileage they have already endured, still look almost new.

The upper fabric remains intact, the soles show only mild signs of wear on the outside of the forefoot, and they still smell relatively fresh. I would recommend the KSO Evo to any body who is looking for a do-it-all pair of minimalist running shoes.

The thin sole does mean that you must run correctly; no more heel striking, and transition in to your Vibrams gradually. Take a look at the KSO Evo now. Toe Socks Injinji Socks. Shop By Sock Weight. Not much: thin sandals made from old tire rubber and leather string. Without giving away the race because it is a fantastic and fun book that everyone should read , the fact that the Tarahumara compete at such an extraordinary level despite abject poverty, isolation, and the most basic of footwear over dangerous terrain is mind-blowing.

Plus, running injuries are unheard of amongst the Tarahumara despite running up to miles km at a crack. When was the last time you heard of a runner never getting hurt? The book cites studies pointing fingers at cushioned sneakers as the culprits, and the minimalist shoe revolution got its bible.

That status is reserved for the people who are running literally barefoot and unshod, with skin on the pavement. There are many legendary barefoot runners who have gone down in history.

Heck, the very inspiration for the modern-day marathon, Pheidippides, supposedly was barefoot when he ran the first marathon after the Battle of Marathon in ancient Greece. Or take Abebe Bikila, the first African to ever win an Olympic gold medal, who broke the marathon world record while running barefoot in the Rome Olympics.

But aside from the dirt and potential glass, it has always fascinated me. Vibram has published studies that claim their shoes are as close to barefoot running as you can get without the dangers of stepping on the bad stuff. Our Vibram FiveFingers review corroborates that. With some soles as thin as 3 mm of rubber, you still get the ground feedback without the glass.

Since then, many other brands from Nike to Xero to Vivobarefoot, now offer minimalist running shoes and sandals. But, they are not the same shoe or the same experience as the Vibram toe shoes.

Because there are no toe slots. He wears them grocery shopping, running, out to dinner, paddle boarding, and everything in between. The only things they are not good for are cold, wet conditions. Even though they are a great conversation starter out in public, I typically only wear my Vibram shoes while working out, running, or hiking.

I ran my first two marathons in and before I had ever heard of barefoot running. Atop thickly cushioned New Balance sneakers, my training had all the usual laments you hear from runners: one injury after another. Still, I happily ran and completed my marathons, thinking no more of it.

When Ryan started exercising in Vibram FiveFingers, the appeal was instant. It felt like a return to nature and natural posture. I bought my first pair and loved the feeling of the thin soles and the completely new experience of feeling the ground beneath my feet. It added a dimension to my running that I never knew I missed.

All those miles I had spent in sneakers, I never once thought about actually feeling the ground. Running in FiveFingers, I soon grew to enjoy the unique and different feelings of running on stone, grass, pavement, or dirt. With the toe slots, they felt natural and fit literally like a glove. After two months of transitioning my running form from a heel striker to a forefoot striker, I signed up for my next two marathons.

Ironically, it was during my next marathon when I saw my first group of barefoot runners. Not in toe shoes, but without shoes at all with their skin on the pavement for the full That blew my mind. My mother would definitely freak out on me if I did. My next marathon was equally successful.

My feet got lots of stares, but I ended up finishing as the eleventh female finisher in the race. My feet and body felt invincible, although admittedly, my feet hurt a bit on the apple-sized rocks.

Nothing to stop me, though! After that, I took a few years off, and when I started running again, I got injured. I ended up finishing my fifth marathon half walking and half jogging. So, did Vibram FiveFingers cause my running injuries? And we LOVE our hiking boots. We recently set out on a section hike through the White Mountains in New Hampshire — a notoriously knee-busting scramble. Ryan and I wore our hiking boots. Loaded down with heavy packs, we slowly climbed over huge boulder fields while the lightweight, trail-legged thru-hikers bounded past in trail running sneakers and ankle trail gaiters.

A few weeks later and rehabilitated, we hit the trail where we left off. The difference was immense. We felt lighter and more balanced than ever. We breezed over the top of Mount Washington the fourth highest peak on the Appalachian Trail and the surrounding presidential mountains.

Plus, with all of the rocks, the no-slip grip on the bottom of the FiveFingers was game-changing. Before chucking your hiking boots after reading our Vibram FiveFingers review, there are a few considerations when choosing minimalist shoes while on the trail.

At the end of the day, you might want both. The padding on minimalist shoes is barely there. This takes some time to transition. We would have been miserable hiking without our waterproof hiking boots. Jax R, Zappos Customer , August 21, Overall 1 Rated 1 stars out of 5. Comfort 1 Rated 1 stars out of 5. I've been wearing VFF for over 3 years now, I'm an avid outdoor runner and lift weights, I can run easily barefooted but choose not too because I like to keep my feet pretty.

I kill the traction on the soles of my shoes from running on inclines with gravel, I wanted something more durable but with the minimalist feel.

These shoes had high reviews in that regard, I heard they ran small but I kept to my normal sizing. I wear a womens size 9 so I bought a 40, they were snug like a glove and you could see my pedicure through the material because of the stretch, also the fat pad on the soles of my foot hung over the soles of the shoe. I wore them for an hour and my heels started to ache, there is just no cushion love in these shoes.

There's also a bare amount of toe protection on the tips which I need a barrier for running trails. Overall they fit like a glove and would be cool for light runs but not my choice for the support and durability I need.

Also the bottom design lacks the same anatomical patterns as the other VFF too. So I'm ordering my go to again the Bikila Evo. PTink, Zappos Customer , June 17, The chart marks a 40 as 8 to 8. I am suspicious about how the fabric on the tops would wear, though. Morgan, Zappos Customer , May 8, These are Soo comfortable, soft, and flexible! I ordered one size up from my usual VFF size and they're perfect. I love them!! CP, Zappos Customer , February 21, Worked well on a recent ocean kayak trip.

Anonymous, Zappos Customer , August 12, Love them! I'm a woman, normally a size 9 and they fit true to size, even with my long toes. I use them for lifting and for my multiple mile long walks. My PT suggested them to me with my knee problems I pronate heavily. Ever since I have worn them for my work outs..

Highly highly recommend. Anonymous, Zappos Customer , July 24, I got a blue pair of the KMD SPORT LS and received many funny looks which I don't really mind, but I wanted to buy a black pair so that it would match more clothing and appear more casual than my blue colored pair and let me tell you, I have surprisingly received compliments on how cool they look from most people.

The first few times it took me 14 minutes to get my toes in their proper places but now I have it down to about 4 minutes. It definately helps to do the big toes first!
